Plumbing calls in Payette
Payette is the county seat of Payette County, on the Payette River a few miles north of Fruitland. The town started as a railroad construction camp in the 1880s and was incorporated in 1891, so some of the houses near the center of town are well over a hundred years old, with newer neighborhoods built out around them.
In older homes, the plumbing has usually been changed piece by piece. It is common to find galvanized steel next to copper next to plastic, cast-iron drains under the floor and shutoff valves that have not been turned in years. Galvanized pipe narrows as it corrodes inside, which shows up as weak pressure or brown water at one faucet after another. A plumber can tell you whether a short section can be replaced or whether a larger repipe is worth pricing. Ask for both numbers in writing. While they are there, have them check that the main valve actually closes, because finding out during a burst pipe is the worst time.

What to call about
- Leaks & burst pipes – A split pipe in the crawl space, water through a ceiling, a wet spot that will not dry or a water bill that jumped.

- Water heaters – No hot water, lukewarm showers, a gas pilot that keeps going out, or water pooling under the tank.
- Frozen pipes & winter prep – No water on a cold morning, a hose bib that split, a well house that froze or a sprinkler line left full.
